Opera Desktop TeamOpera 10.60 RC1This is a release candidate for 10.60 final on Windows, Mac and Linux/FreeBSD.
Remember to keep comments brief and to the point, but still descriptive and relevant. Try to avoid repeating things you have reported in the past, and allow other people's feedback to be heard as well. What we are mainly looking for is major new issues that we may not be aware of, such as recent (within the last few snapshots) regressions. Download ... Unix fixes, stabillity, and more: Approaching 10.60 FinalWe have a few more bug fixes for you to test during the weekend. Unix in particular has a decently size batch of new fixes in this build, but you will see that there are also cross-platform fixes. This includes work on Offline Applications, Geolocation, Widgets, and more.
Although we are not quite there yet, we are starting to close in on the final release of Opera 10.60 across all platforms, including Linux and FreeBSD. You can expect a few more fixes, and we will of course keep an eye out for new regressions and other serious issues. Keep reporting those crashes, and let us know if you discover any new and serious bugs. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... Stability, font work, and Geolocation for LinuxThis snapshot fixes a few more crash bugs that are affecting a lot of people. There is also some more work on international fonts (however, please look at the known issues below), and Geolocation using Wifi is now available for Linux.
If you are having problems with Geolocation on Linux, please include details about the driver for your wireless adapter. You can use the following command: lspci | grep EthernetNote that FreeBSD still doesn't use Wifi for geolocation, and only uses the computer IP which is less accurate. Known Issues

Linux is close to being on par with the other platforms, and right now we are very interested in crash reports on all platforms. Please use the crash reporting dialog actively to make sure we catch as many crashes as possible, and remember to add any relevant details about what you were doing at the time of the crash. We would also be interested in reports about any freezes/hangs. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... *nix fixes, and moreWe promised you more *nix fixes this week, and here they are. There are also a number of cross-platform fixes to address a few important problems.
At this stage, we are mostly interested in regressions since 10.5x, so let us know if you spot anything. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... Opera 10.54 released for Mac and WindowsOpera 10.54—a recommended security update—was released earlier today and will be pushed through auto-update for everyone.

Weekend fixesIf you find weekends to be terribly boring, perhaps this will cheer you up a bit. Here's another snapshot for you to test!

Download ... Opera 10.6 Beta releasedHei
We today released the new beta of 10.6. The focus on this version has been performance and core updates. We have added some nice web technologies : WebM, Geolocation, Web Workers, Offline Web Applications, Cross-Document Messaging update etc We do appreciate the help you guys give us with your testing. Now lets continue making sure Opera 10.6 gets solid. Let the bugfixing continue ;) HTML5-enhanced 10.60 Beta is coming! This is a release candidate for the public beta of Opera 10.60.
In the previous snapshot, we added several new features related to HTML5 and other open web standards. As many of you know, the HTML5 project started long ago here at Opera, and we are dedicated to fully supporting HTML5 and the latest in other open web standards, such as SVG and CSS. Opera 10.60 will be another step in that direction. Now we'd like to give even more people the opportunity to test-drive the next Opera release, and like other betas, this one will be made available to a wider audience through www.opera.com. We really appreciate your help in getting this beta out there! Note: If you are having problems with Geolocation, you can try checking it in other browsers as well. If it fails there, the problem is likely to be on the Geolocation provider's end. This feature will work best on wireless connections. Download ... HTML5, and then someThe web is moving quickly these days, and Opera would like to stay at the forefront of open web standards. Opera has been promoting HTML5 since the beginning (and HTML5 actually has its roots at Opera), and in this build we have added four features related to HTML5 and other open standards, and an update for a previous implementation:
We have also added sets of specific fonts to be used for CJK web sites, which should improve readability. We would appreciate your feedback on this. In addition to these new/improved features there are quite a few bug fixes for Linux/FreeBSD. Mac users will notice that plug-ins will generally perform better too. Take a look at the changelog for more information. Note that there are no Linux PPC builds for this snapshot. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... Saturday SnapshotIt's a rainy Saturday here in Oslo, so it's a good opportunity to release a snapshot.
This build contains quite a few fixes. Various crashes have been fixed, as well as some Dragonfly and scope protocol issues. We've also been working on some RTL/BiDi things. There's good news for Linux users: Java should now work again! We've also added the ability to show suggestions in the search field. You can try it with Wikipedia and Yandex for now. The address bar and find bar have also received a few fixes. You will notice that the search field in the page find toolbar flashes red when there are no matches, for example. Single-domain intranet servers will now be stored in Opera's preferences rather than relying on the typed history. Take a look at the changelog for more details. Monday morning update: Added Mac builds and changelog entries. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... More bug fixingA new batch of bug fixes is ready for testing. Pay particular attention to URL and file encoding/decoding, and watch for regressions there.
Please try to keep comments on-topic, relevant, and brief. Avoid repeating things, and take discussions to the forums or private messages. It is not necessary to quote the full comment if you do find it necessary to respond to someone. Too many comments can make it difficult for us to keep on top of things, and that means that we could miss out on important problem reports. WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... *NIX family focusI hope all of you aren’t tired of testing just yet. Because mere hours after releasing the previous one, here is yet another Opera snapshot (YAOS) for testing!
For Mac, we have fixed a significant SVG drawing/animation regression from Peregrine, and optimized the start-up sequence to make it faster. Two crashers introduced with 10.60 Alpha 1 have also been fixed. For FreeBSD and Linux, we have numerous font fixes, improvements to X11 mode, and the KDE file selector freeze is fixed. Known issues

Opera 10.60 Alpha 1: Speed, eye-candy, and bug fixingWe are now preparing for a 10.60 release, which we aim to synchronize across all desktop platforms. This alpha will give you noticeable gains in performance, an improved user interface (UI), and lots of bug fixes.
Performance! Our Core team never rests, and we have noticeably increased Opera's performance once again. You should see performance improvements for both JavaScript, DOM and CSS. UI improvements In addition to the visual tweaks you have seen already, such as the Speed Dial facelift, we have also been making further UI enhancements. You will notice that the O menu button now says "Menu" for easy discovery, and instead of hard to read thumbnails for internal tabs, we have replaced them with icons. The tab hover previews have also received a facelift. On Windows, we have disabled the Windows 7 taskbar previews by default, as they were causing frustration for people with a lot of open tabs. You can enable them from the Tabs sections of the Preferences dialog. Carbon-neutral? Following the major rewrite of the Opera Framework for 10.50, which replaced Carbon with Cocoa, we have gone back and removed as much Carbon code as possible. The few things that are left are loaded dynamically, which should improve performance. Also for our Mac users, please note that Java only works if you have installed the very latest Java update on Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6. There is no Java support on Mac OS 10.4. Unix For Unix users, this obviously means that there will be no 10.5x version. However, we are aiming for synchronizing the 10.60 release across all platforms, and Unix will benefit from all the improvements since 10.5x. Known issues
WARNING: This is an alpha build of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features. Download ... Linux WebM Labs, minor updateWhen we initially announced WebM support some Linux users may have found that the builds provided did not work for them. However, we have subsequently made a small tweak to the Linux packages so that they should now work on a wider range of distros. If WebM support wasn't working for you before on Linux, then please re-download the package and try again.
As always the best way to test an experimental build is to run Opera 'in place'. To use a package in this way, from the terminal enter the following: $ tar xf opera-10.54-21867-webm.i386.linux.tar.bz2 $ opera-10.54-21867-webm.i386.linux/opera & (This assumes a 32-bit system. Adjust accordingly if you have a 64-bit system). If you want to install the Linux build alongside your main Opera Linux install, use the included install script and specify a suffix of webm, as follows: $ opera-10.54-21867-webm.i386.linux/install --suffix webm If you continue to have problems playing video, ensure that you have all the required video dependencies installed. See "Using video with Opera 10.50 on Linux/UNIX" for more information. WARNING: This is an experimental Labs release. It may contain severe bugs and cause data loss. Or it may just provide great HTML5 video support. Download Fonts, usability, widgets ... Oh my!Here is a nice shiny new build. It is particularly interesting for our Linux and FreeBSD users in that it contains a several nice *nix fixes, including crash and freeze fixes, fixes that improve usability, fixes to widgets and three font bugs are fixed. (Yes, we know it hasn't fixed all the font issues yet!:P )
In addition we have fixed a cross platform issue with the reload menu and done some Windows widgets fixes. ;) Enjoy the build and the weekend! :D Mac Known Issues

WARNING: This is a development snapshot with the latest changes. It may contain severe bugs and cause data loss. Download ... WebM Labs releaseAs you have probably already heard, yesterday Opera released a Labs build with WebM support. You can find out more details in our Labs announcement, Opera dev article or Philip Jägenstedt's blog post (Philip leads our HTML5 video effort).
This post is provided to give you all a place to share your thoughts on this historic announcement. However as always, stay on topic. Comments should be about video support (specifically WebM video support). Remember that Labs releases are not snapshots, they serve to demonstrate new and ground breaking features we are working on. That said, they still are not meant for regular usage, since they do share the same potential for serious bugs as the snapshots do. ... |
